For those of you clamoring for a digital audio version of Randy’s hit single, you can finally rejoice! Our special 3″ Mini CD of Bigfoot Beware/For Maurice is now available. It comes in a full-color mini sleeve, sporting the album artwork of Bigfoot Beware/For Maurice. The Bigfoot Beware Mini CD is strictly limited to 400 copies!

The 3-inch CD format follows the Red Book standard for CD digital audio. The main difference is that the smaller physical size of the disc. The overwhelming majority of audio CD players and CD-ROM drives have a smaller circular indentation in the CD tray for holding these discs. Laptop drives generally only require the centre hole to hold the disc so the smaller diameter is irrelevant. Some slot-loading drives, such as those found in some car CD players, are unable to manipulate the smaller discs or their adapters.

‘Bigfoot Beware’ tells the story of an 18 year old Randy and the tragic events that took place almost 50 years ago and led him to finally take the plunge and hunt down the bastard himself! That’s right. Randy has embarked upon a quest to hunt and kill the rare and elusive Three-Toed Bigfoot, and while his crack team of experts didn’t show up as expected, he and his good buddy Schooner have hit the supposedly-haunted forests of the Cobb Estate in Altadena CA, where the “Bigfoot Expedishun” begins. This single is a bit different than others. It’s a mixture of chant, story, and song. Randy’s storytelling tone in the Bigfoot Beware Mini CD is certainly on par with past spoken word pieces you may be familiar with by the Residents. What’s better, it’s a new story and concept that has not been approached yet: Cryptozoology. Compositionally, Residents fans will immediately recognize their patent use of cleverly arranged percussive elements with keys, strings, and myriad other sounds woven throughout to create another sonic masterpiece. Bigfoot’s heavy steps leaving huge prints in the Louisiana mud can be heard leaving rhythmical footprints in the composition as the tribal drums pulse out a deep steady thud throughout the track. Bigfoot…Bigfoot…

It hasn’t been the easiest year for Randy. With multiple worldwide runs of Shadowland behind and ahead of him, a Bigfoot Expedishun that didn’t exactly pan out as planned, his good buddy Chuck retiring from the hustle and bustle of Residents tour, and now Randy’s pet cat and friend Maurice has passed away.

“For Maurice” is a sorrowful and heartfelt goodbye to Randy’s pal. We have all been there. Anyone who hears the ethereal caterwauling haunting the background of this track will certainly share in Randy’s cumulative experience of loss on many levels. Whether the music is a reflection on more than the immediate loss of Maurice or something less specific like the loss of love in general, we may never know. Musically strong and punctuated with delightfully wet horns, the whole track seems to permeate the essence of “meow”, with excellent use of enveloping over the more melodic layers to achieve a cat-like presence throughout. Maurice’s memory and legacy will forever be preserved in this canticle.
